Bernard Smith, DVM, DABVPDr. Smith has been Chief of Staff at the Animal Hospital of Verona since 2004. He grew up in Northwest, Illinois, and currently resides in Verona. He received both his undergraduate degree and DVM degree from Iowa State. After graduating in 1981, Dr. Smith worked at several small animal practices in Milwaukee and Madison before joining us.

Dr. Smith is a Diplomate of the American Board Veterinary Practitioners. This organization, which recognizes the highest standards of veterinary care, has certified him as a board certified specialist in companion animals. He is one of only seven small animal veterinarians in the state with this certification. We feel so lucky to have such an experienced and accomplished Chief of Staff treating our beloved patients here at the Animal Hospital of Verona!

Dr. Smith's areas of interest within veterinary medicine include surgery, endocrinology, dermatology, and exotic animal medicine. Outside of work Dr. Smith likes camping, biking and baking bread. He also enjoys spending time with his family and pets.

Christopher Voss, DVMDr. Voss has been a veterinarian at the Animal Hospital of Verona since 1998. A native of Wisconsin, he grew up in West Middleton and currently resides in Verona. He received both his undergraduate and DVM degrees from the University of Wisconsin. After graduating from veterinary school in 1996, he practiced in Mukwonago, Wisconsin. As a child, Dr. Voss brought his pets to the Animal Hospital of Verona, so he just couldn't pass up an opportunity to join us!

Dr. Voss' medical interests include ultrasound, surgery, and animal behavior. He appreciates establishing close relationships with his clients and their pets. As a sports fan, Dr. Voss spends his leisure time playing baseball, football and basketball as well as enjoying music and history. He also values spending time with his friends, family and pets, which include one dog and two cats.

Brian Hoelscher, DVMDr. Hoelscher is a veterinarian at Animal Hospital of Verona, joining our team in January 2011. Growing up in southern Illinois, he now happily resides in New Glarus, Wisconsin. He received an undergraduate degree in medical biology from Southern Illinois University – Edwardsville in 2001 and undertook his veterinary studies at Ross University, earning a DVM degree in 2005. Prior to joining Animal Hospital of Verona, he spent time practicing in both Sun Prairie and Oregon, Wisconsin. He is a member of the American Veterinary Dental Society, the International Academy of Pain Management, Wisconsin Veterinary Medical Association (WVMA) and American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA).

Dr. Hoelscher has extensive training and experience in the field of advanced veterinary dentistry and oral surgery. He uses his training and experiences not only to educate pet owners on the importance of dentistry in their pets, but also to provide continuing education to veterinarians and veterinary staff across the country. Dr. Hoelscher prides himself in offering the highest level of oral care for his patients by offering the most up-to-date skills, techniques and equipment. Some of these procedures include root canal therapy, orthodontics, guided tissue regeneration and numerous periodontal and oral surgeries. He has also worked with the Peter Emily International Veterinary Dental Foundation (PEIVDF), which provides volunteer dental care to animal sanctuaries and zoos across the world.

Dr. Hoelscher believes in providing the best medical care possible to his clients and the cherished members of their family. He is interested in all aspects of dentistry and oral surgery, canine behavior, and oncology (cancer). Outside of work he enjoys golfing, running, cycling, cooking and spending time with his wife and son. Dr. Hoelscher has many pets including two donkeys — Sal & Sabina, a German Shepherd mix named Sydney, and three cats — Chester, Kiley & Petey!
